This t-shirt has a unique design on the back and front by local artist Pete Feigal. It features three (3) different WWII aircraft. Center / P-51 Mustang, Top / P-47 Thunderbolt and bottom P-38 Lightning. The P-51 Mustang
was built by North American Aviation and is a long-range, single-seat fighter and fighter-bomber used during World War II and the Korean War, among other conflicts. The Republic built, P-47 Thunderbolt
was a World War II era fighter and its primary armament was eight .50-caliber machine guns and in the fighter-bomber ground-attack role it could carry five-inch rockets or a bomb load of 2,500 pounds. The P-38 Lightning
built by Lockheed,
is also a World War II-era fighter aircraft. Developed to a United States Army Air Corps requirement, it had distinctive twin booms and a central nacelle containing the cockpit and armament. Allied propaganda claimed it had been nicknamed the fork-tailed devil!
All the aircraft have “Invasion stripes” they were alternating black and white bands painted on the fuselages and wings of Allied aircraft for the purpose of increased recognition by friendly forces (and thus reduced friendly fire incidents) during and after the Normandy Landings.
